Evidently, people don't take you seriously if you're young. I should know, I go through it. Anything I say, is either shrugged off as a) stupid or b) cute. That's highly annoying. Especially since I'm left feeling like a 13-year-old child dying to get old.
So, here is a quote from Charlotte Bronte's novel Jane Eyre, which will hopefully keep many traps shut (that is, if they understand it).
Jane Eyre (to Mr. Rochester): I don't think, sir, you have a right to command me, merely because you are older than I, or because you have seen more of the world than I have; your claim to superiority depends on the use you have made of your time and experience.
is it so??? i guess that happens to every pretty girl...

ReplyDeletesasha, yes..it is so. really. and thanks for the compliment, only i really don't know how you came to the conclusion that i can be counted in the "pretty" category.
anonymous, no, i'm not in depression. *touchwood* i do need a revolution..but this post has nothing to with this!! also, are you, infact, my friend?? if so, why be mysterious, and not write your name??
maverick, Jane Eyre is a woman. so it'll be Ms. Jane Eyre.
Very very apt!

ReplyDeleteno its ok, ur comments.
ReplyDeletei would just like to say that ur being extremely (and trust me, my friend, extremely is an understatement!!) presumptuous. if u think being in a romantic relationship is revolutionary or that a person shold have a bf/gf just to break mundaneness, you're among the most immature people around, and i wish u all the best with growing up.
i didn't feel bad, or hurt... i'm simply bewildered that our society actually thinks that a boy friend is all it takes to make u feel revolutionary... which is funny, coz, hello?? what happened to the feminists? for all u knw, i have a bf! what then??
also, do i knw u in person??
i am running short of exclamations! abt how much we are alike. Though presently i am not going thru any being-young-yet-not-so-young crisis but i get what you mean. Having said that, I also think you aren't that young now.. may be the need is to be more assertive with those you treat you like a kid..wear the no-nonsense look on your face.. it might just work!
ReplyDeleteAnd hey, coming back to Jane Eyre.. Anya it is the most beautiful book in the world..:) isn't it? I read it in 8th standard.. fell in lv..and then quite literally fell in love with someone who looked like Mr. Rochester to me. hehe.. i have had my adventures with life!
Would love to sit some day and discuss it with you though it's been ages I read it completely.. everynow and then I pick it up, dust it off and read a page or two..specially the conversations between Rochester and Jane. Sometimes it makes me pine..sometimes it makes me sigh and sometimes it makes me so confident..the book is magical..yet not at all in a conventional romantic sort of a way.
Aaaah.... i love it everytime smone talks of/ quotes jane eyre.. i know there are many many more admirers of this book..and im sure that those who like it are one of a kind. :)
PS: this anonymous chap is taking away the charm to blog comments..bah
wow & thanks a lot! i will try that no-nonsense look. :)
ReplyDeleteand yes, jane eyre is a classic to say the least. u knw what i really like about jane eyre? its the fact that it was waaay above its time in terms of feminism. and that both jane & rochester are rather ugly. but the part that makes me wanna scream out "go woman!!" is that she goes to rochester after his social castration. unlike women across time, she's the one in a power position.
but, like all books, it has its flaws. its sorta racist. poor bertha mason, the iconic "madwoman in the attic". she's marginalised & even jane, our feminist female hero, does not sympathise with her, let alone empathise. also, one must not forget that the story is frm jane's point of view, and, thus, runs the risk of being biased. and that is it to the degree that jane always presents her self as miss goody two shoes.
have u read "Wide Sargasso sea" by jean Rhys? its Bertha mason's story & faaaar sexier than "Jane Eyre", believe it or not.
ps: i knw the anonymous guy is...!!
if u know me why dont tell my name common i challenge u
ReplyDeletei don't know who you are. i never said i did. i would really like it if you read what i've written BEFORE commenting and post comments related to my posts only.
